Style in the Workplace Series - Let's get alternative!
Let’s get alternative!
In part 3 of my series on style in the workplace, I’m talking about wearing alternatives to classic items. If you want to step up your style game at work but still look like a total boss babe, try a twist on something classic. I call these “alternatives” to the things considered as classic work wear.
Replace your blazers and cardigans with something trendy.
Instead of a traditional blazer or cardigan, step up your style game with a bomber jacket or leather jacket. I like pairing a classic look with a bomber jacket or leather jacket to give my look a little trendy flair. It still gives the look and feel of a traditional blazer or jacket with a slightly more fashionable feel. I suggest finding jackets with a good shape, especially if they’re thick, to make sure your figure still shows. Here are some looks for inspiration.
Button up shirts are so 1996.
I have always hated button up shirts. They are completely uncomfortable for women because they were traditionally designed for men. Even the best made button up shirts can have boob gaping and ill fits. Instead of button ups, I like cute blouses. You can wear them more easily with just about anything to work, or if you find one with a cute print, pair with some jeans and flats for a casual look outside of work. Here’s the same cute printed blouse worn two different ways for work and as a casual look.
Ditch the dress.
I love dresses. Like it’s a total outfit I can just throw on and not have to style or think about all that much. But, sometimes, I want to wear something other than a dress or skirt but still not have to think too much about putting an entire outfit together. The perfect alternative I’ve found are jumpsuits. You can find ones that are work appropriate and style them for an oh-so-trendy look. Here are two of my favorite jumpsuits I’ve found for work.
